To create the tail, thread (2) tan beads on the right hand string. Make sure to thread back through the rightmost (3) tan beads from Row 7, from left to right as shown. To create the right leg, repeat steps 16-18 with (3) tan beads on the right hand string. Secure your shape in place by tying a double knot with the left most edge of Row 7. Take the end of this string and pass it back through the leftmost (3) tan beads from Row 7, threading through these beads from right to left as shown. First thread (3) tan beads on the left hand string. Now you will need to create the dog’s legs. To create Row 7, thread the following through the left hand string: (3) tan, (1) metallic silver, and (3) tan beads. To create Row 6, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) tan, (2) metallic silver, and (2) black beads. To create Row 5, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) tan, (1) metallic silver and (2) black beads. To create Row 4, thread the following through the left hand string: (4) tan beads. The black bead here represents the dog’s nose. Then repeat steps 5 and 6 to create Row 3. To create Row 3, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) tan, (1) black and (2) tan beads. The metallic blue beads here represent the dog’s eyes. To create Row 2, thread the following through the left hand string: (1) black, (1) metallic blue, (1) tan, (1) metallic blue and (1) tan bead. Repeat steps 7-9 to create the right ear, except use (4) tan beads instead of black. Take the end of the left hand string and thread it back through the last (3) black beads. To do this, string (4) black beads on the left hand string. You will now need to create the dog’s ears. Pull cords tight to form this row of your Dog Bead Pet. Take your right hand string and thread back through beads from the other end. To create Row 1, thread (1) black and (3) tan Pony Beads onto the left hand string. To learn how to create a lark knot, click here. This will help when threading the beads.Ĭreate a lark knot on the key ring. Stiffen both ends by rolling it between your finger with a dab of craft glue. I know that this description isn’t gold or anything, but it was the easiest way to explain without a diagram.Cut your Braiding Cord to 48 inches in length. The tail is a one bead row with a string of 5 beads looped through each side and reconnected through that one beaded row. The bottom flipper (7 beads) is started with it’s connection in row 7 and reconnected through row 8 (after looping the string back through the closest bead in row 7 and through the last bead on the flipper). The top fin (4 beads) is connected through row 6 and reconnects in row 7. I started at the ‘nose’ and just worked my way to the left. I did draw out how I was going to alter the pattern, but my drawing really stinks and only makes sense to me, probably, so I’m not going to post a picture of that! I based this pattern off of one those that I found. None of the patterns I saw were of a free form, actual, dolphin, they were all just patterns of dolphins in a square or rectangular form. I tried to look up a pattern for a pony bead dolphin, but all the ones that I found really stunk. A very awesome cousin of mine really likes dolphins. Then I remembered that I had pony beads! (I have no idea why, but I do.) So I decided that I was going to make a pony bead animal. So I was getting pretty bored with not really being able to go anywhere because of the weather, so I was just thinking about all the different (and random) things in my craft room. I remember going home and showing my mom how you could weave the string around these beads and make something so cool out of it! I knew that you could make a lizard almost the same way as a snake, and so I remember sitting at the kitchen table, teaching myself how to do so! That’s my first memory of creating something just by thinking things through (other than coloring pictures), and I haven’t stopped since! I don’t remember how old I was when the neighbor across the street taught me and my twin sister (Hi sis!) how to make our first pony bead animal (a snake), but I do know I was pretty young. Do you guys remember making pony bead animals when you were a kid? If you don’t I’m really sorry, because they were a ton of fun to make!
